Outdoor Ed and Conservation
A project by and for the students of Mingus Union High School
The Outdoor Ed and Conservation program at Mingus Union High School is a four-year track that gives students grades 9-12 the knowledge, skills, and leadership to safely, ethically, and effectively work in Arizona's diverse natural environments.
Support the program
Every dollar goes to the field.
Contributions cover gear, transportation, certifications, and student stipends that keep the program running through the school year.
Where students learn from the land.
Students learn to identify native flora and fauna, explore geological, hydrological, and astronomical systems from the field, and understand the cultural, historical, and geographic context of Arizona's public lands.
Through hands-on fieldwork they gain practical skills in outdoor navigation, wilderness first aid, hiking, backpacking, climbing, canyoneering, and human-powered water sports. Additional training covers hunting, archery, fishing best practices, and an applied approach to back-country nutrition.
